In Video two of our 2007 Highway One Strat upgrades and mods I show you how easy it is to install pickups when you have a Solderless Obsidian Wiring kit installed.

How to install pickups in your guitar even if you can't solder! If you can use a screwdriver you can install guitar pickups yourself! One mistake that I made was in trimming the "pushback" wire Duh. No need to do that. You literally need two screwdrivers. One Phillips to remove and reinstall the pick guard and the pickups from the guitar and another small flat head to push the button down while installing or removing wire from the PCB circuit.

Step 1 - Remove old strings - I saved mine to reuse as they are still in good shape

Step 2 - Remove the pickguard screws

Step 3 - Check to see if the pick guard will come out of the guitar, if not it could be that the neck is holding the pick guard in place. If so, the back the neck screws off enough to allow you to remove the pickguard. Be sure to be careful if your ground wire or output jack leads are short not to break them.

Step 4 - Using a small flat head screwdriver remove the leads from the Obsidian Wiring harness

Step 5 - Remove the pickups from the pickguard using a phillips screwdriver

Step 6 - Install the new pickups into the pick guard and insert the hot and ground leads according to the instructions. Hot is white black is ground

Step 7 - Plug a patch cable into the input check and plug the guitar into an amp. Use a low volume and clean channel. Touch the pickup magnets in relation to the pickup selector switch and you should hear a noise through the amp. It's good to do this to make sure you have not made a mistake.

Step 8 - If step 7 checks out reinstall the pick guard

Step 9 - Tighten the neck screws back up

Step 10 - Restring the guitar

Step 11 - Set the pickup height. It's that simple!
