LESSON 10 - All Major & Minor CAGED Chord Diagrams. INCLUDES the Root Note Patters for Each Shape.
Lesson 10 – The CAGED System Octave Pattern and Chords
The CAGED system is great tool that can be used for learning the fretboard. It’s based on playing familiar open chords and teaches you how to move those anywhere on the neck so that you have at least 5 ways of playing every major chord and 5 ways of playing every minor chord. For example there is a C shape C chord, an A shaped C chord, a G shaped C chord, an E shaped C chord and a D shaped C chord.
The octave shapes that are found within the 5 shapes are a great way of beginning to learn where all the notes are on the guitar. Many people don't realize that depending on how many frets you have there are at least 12 C notes on the guitar.
Once you know this you then move onto scales played from each of these positions. The Major Scale, Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic and Blues scales (among others) can be learned in all positions across the neck.
CAGED is a really powerful way of unlocking the fretboard and will help you to develop a much better understanding of your instrument.
Pattern 1 is based of the C Major Chord
Pattern 2 is based on the A Major Chord
Pattern 3 is based on the G Major Chord
Pattern 4 is based on the E Major Chord
Pattern 5 is based on the D Major Chord
I have included a PDF document that shows all 5 shapes and identifies the Root notes as well.
